But, here I am a reformed person. A believer.
the past year or so has seen some really interesting films to hit the screen. Here are some of my favourites to have come and the ones that I watched.
Johnny Gaddar:

Well this happens to be the film that impressed me most. The characters are out there onto your face, screaming rawness and life. Its almost you are part of everything that is happening. The best thing I liked about the film is of the director dropping references through out the film. Its an amazing thriller and what hits you most is the beginning and the end. Very rarely do you see a film where you know what is going to happen and yet be surprised when you know how it happens. The actors have done a great job and so have the technicians. But the most important thing is it being truly a Film Noir. Dark, stark, the anti hero... weaknesses in every character can be seen and their struggle to overcome that. Its an amazing watch. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for. Go get yourself a DVD. but get only original DVDs, I do not endorse PIRACY. I work in the same industry and would like to know that I am getting paid my efforts' worth.
AAMIR:

Ok here is a film I was quite aprehensive about and really didn't go to the theatre to watch it. I wasn't too sure about the film and thought that it might just be another small budget production. It was one of my friends who borrowed a DVD from a library and we sat home one weekend and watched the film. I swear, it took my breath away. The actor though being a regular in serials (another reason why I wasn't too interested in watching the film in the first place), did a great job. Considering that the whole film revolved around him. Another great watch. No I am not here to tell the story. So don't even expect briefs. you wanna know the story get an original DVD, or borrow one and watch it.
Manorama Six Feet Under:

Well here is a film one needs to watch. I wouldn't be able to do justice by saying a word about it. Lives upto the Film Noir that one is so used to watching.
Oye Lucky:

Oye Lucky is worth every penny you spend to watch it. Its funny, its got a dark side to it. Its human. Its unbelievably believable. Abhay Deol seems to have made his mark with the Film Noir genre. Whether it be Manorama six Feet Under or Ek Chaalis ki Last Local... he seems to fit into the world of Film Noir very effortlessly. He doesn't seem to be one who can act, but one who delivers good enough for the film to look realistic enough to be enjoyed. Though the ending I felt seemed too quick, the film steals you through a wonderful journey/ escape into the world of Lucky.
A Wednesday:

Here is a film with a veteran cast of Film Noir actors. One that I highly recommend. Its got twists and turns that can only be matched by Kangana Ranaut's hair. It's something that makes you sit up and spend time just thinking about what you just saw, and then sends you into this whole mood of introspection. A good film with a great act put by the actors. All of them have contributed to making an amazing thriller. Its definitely Film Noir. I swear if you like assuming, this is the film to watch and be happily surprised.
And now I'm a believer.
Film Noir survives and to see these films actually do well at the box office gives hope to all Film Noir and Independent Directors to try out their stuff. I think we are headed for a good future in film making.
